Batgirl No. 22 by AlexGarner Batgirl No. 22 by AlexGarner
Cover to Batgirl #22. This had to be done very quickly because my home was getting renovated which made for major distractions and lousy working conditions. Also used a new brush technique yet again; just looking for an aesthetic that appeals to me so be ready for even more experimentation as I trudge along this year. Some parts worked, others... not so much.

Showing her removing her bat symbol is a slightly difficult message to get across because as a static image it could easily look like she's putting it back on. Everything was placed carefully in the composition to make precise room for the logo and text.

As someone who isn't familiar with the book or character, I thought she was holding a batarang.  IMO the trick would have been to make it look like a piece of vinyl or latex that had been torn off, with tears and stuff and a bit floppy.  Unless the book has established a rigid material.  I have no idea.

Other than that I really dig it!

My editors told me it's rigid.

Well then, what are you going to do?  I was going to say it could be broken, but it's probably an armor piece.  If it's metal too, then it's basically a dull batarang.

This is gorgeous. I love it, this was a truly fantastic issue. I think BG might be lining up all my new favorite covers.

My God ...

The suspense is killing me. Why? Why would she do this? I know after Death in the Family and what happened with James Jr but she is more deserving to wear the symbol of the bat than Stephanie, that's for sure.

Your artwork is simply spectacular, by the way. Your imagery and the meaning behind it is beautiful; especially this one. I can just feel my heart breaking for her because her anguish is so clearly portrayed.

Thank you so much!
