Buscema Homage

Tue Apr 21, 2009, 3:01 PM
Deviant has informed me that I'm violating copyright laws by posting Buscema's original She-Hulk #1 cover next to mine. It wasn't posted for any personal gain, but as a clear demonstration of just how closely I tried to pay respect to a legendary artist. It's really not worth fighting over, so I'll just let them delete the entry. My versions will still be posted, but it's still lame. Oh well.

That is extremely lame, and shouldn't be an issue as long as he was credited in your description alongside Marvel comics for owning ole Shulkie.

There's always somebody jealous. You did a commissioned work for the original copyright holder, so...
Oh well, their loss.

DA is constantly acting safely, even unreasonably safe when it comes to some things. I've had my work taken down because I colored and only colored and did not draw the image, somebody thought that was art theft. I had permission but DA didn't care.

Then there's the matter of having my prints taken down because it's published work, but my published work and I had permission, they are just staying safe without liability.

In the end, it is really dumb. I'd just put a link to the original in your description then.

Wow, really lame. I think Bill Reinhold was just talking about asking DA whether we could put up original pages we own, by other artists, too... He actually posted a Buscema page too... Lame, lame, lame!

That's harsh. Sorry that they did that. You put work into that.
:iconmechangel2002:
It's possible whoever deleted it didn't even bother to check that you're a working professional, with permission to post stuff like that.

I'm starting to think dA doesn't even research or investigate the claims some people make when they report "violations", just glance and slap the delete button. Now, I'm sure they get a lot of reports and they probably can't effectively investigate everything, but that's no reason to err on the side of fear.

At least give the so-called violator the benefit of the doubt.
